![]() I don't know if it's credential-related or something to do with session handling or something else because, for the life of me, I've never been able to find a log message that provides any clue. If you are using autofs to mount from an SMB server and you subsequently connect manually such as with Finder (CMD-K, connect to server) to that same server it somehow invalidates the existing autofs connection(s). More detailed version: As I was falling asleep the night I posted this, I remembered that I had this same problem a few years ago. Non-autofs SMB mounts to the same target server break autofs SMB mounts (temporarily). Short version: I forgot I had added a Time Machine backup via SMB on the same server a few days before upgrading to Monterey. There have been no changes to the servers (Synology NAS and Windows shares) so I don't see it being a server side problem and no other clients of said shares have had similar issues.Īlthough I've been doing this since before someone kindly put up a gist, this is pretty much what I'm doing for my client setup: ![]() I've been searching my logs and streaming in Console.app to try to catch any error output related to autofs or automount(d) but this appears to be a phantom problem so far. The problem is very quickly fixed by running "automount -uc" in Terminal to blow away the existing mounts and flush the cache but as I have a lot of scripts and other dependencies using the mounts, lots of other stuff breaks and this is less than ideal. I upgraded to Monterey last week and while I was overjoyed that this was the first OS update in seemingly years that didn't clobber my auto_master file, I have a new problem where the mounts just break at some random point in time and attempts to access them result in generic "Permission denied" errors. Except for a brief smbfs breakage in Big Sur with well-known smbfs.kext kernel panics it's worked great. Special thanks for the CSS from its creators at /r/Apple: /u/Xapher19, and /u/gouch23!įor many years, I've been using autofs to mount SMB shares (and previously, NFS shares) on my Macs.
